About Us

The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton is a group of passionate music lovers dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the rock and pop music that we grew up with and the contemporary rock music we love today.

The purpose of the Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton is twofold:

  • To honour the founders' goals of engaging local and national professional musicians and bringing live music to people in Edmonton and surrounding areas through music-centered social events.

  • To nurture youth’s love of music and performing through our Centre for Arts and Music (CAM) Program.

We love rock music. We love the classic rock that influenced history, transformed a culture, and forever changed our societal landscape and we also love the new rock sounds of today – there’s some really great music out there right now, which will be tomorrow’s classics!

We’ve been sharing our love of rock music since 2009 when we held our first hall party featuring live music. That first event grew into Edmonton’s Rockfest – which began in 2011. We’re also committed to creating that one-of-a-kind feeling of an old-school hall party and host various smaller events throughout the year.

We are immensely proud to operate our Centre for Arts and Music (CAM) Program; aimed at mentoring a new generation of musicians with a focus on youth in vulnerable communities. We provide youth with a no-cost opportunity to play an instrument or sing (some have never even held an instrument or sung publicly before CAM) and to be part of a band that will perform at, at least 2 concerts in the school year. Our instructors are professional Edmonton musicians and many of them have been with the same students since the start of the program. This means that if a student in grade 6 joins a CAM band and continues on through to high school, they will be working with the same CAM mentor/s.

Our motivation is to keep the spirit of rock music alive and pass the torch to generations to come so they can experience the power and potential of music to change the world by fostering acceptance, tolerance and love.

Our Mission

The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton runs the CAM (Centre for Arts & Music) Program, which provides opportunities for youth in vulnerable communities to access music programs. This is supported by organizing local music events that build memories, fundraising, and community outreach.

Our Vision

A healthy, vibrant community, through music.

Core Values

Community: by employing local professional musicians to serve youth in vulnerable communities, engaging local acts for our events, working in local schools, and creating regular volunteer opportunities, we foster a stronger, more interconnected community.

Engaging youth through music: music making nurtures the physical, social, and mental wellbeing of participants. Music is a means to promote positive relationships, while also improving academic, behavioural, and attitudinal outcomes for participants.

Music yields positive change: allowed to be themselves and experience positive role model relationships with music mentors. Students gain self-motivation, confidence and sense of accomplishment. Youth discover how music can assist them as they make changes in their lives, help with mental health, improve socialization, and better manage stress.

Youth voice. Music can be used in creating a supportive space where youth feel safe and included. Working through music allows us to draw on the creative strengths of students – strengths that might otherwise not be developed.

The path to take the stage! The CAM Program is designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing.
